To protect your privacy:
Either use a VPN (Virtual Private Network), which encrypts the connection (such as the Private Internet Access VPN), or subscribe to put.io (protection for downloading of specific files only), an off-shore service which performs the P2P on their end, allowing you to simply download the files directly. When downloading from put.io, connection is encrypted via the SSL protocol.
Your best bet for overall privacy is probably getting the above-mentioned VPN...
If you use the put.io service you can stream directly to your TV, or you can download the files in which case it is recommended you use the Firefox browser with the DownThemAll add-on, to maximize your bandwith. It can drastically increase your download speeds... Downloads from put.io can be done using their encrypted https connection.
Movies stored on your put.io account can be streamed directly to your TV via a Roku box (use the puke.io Roku private channel) or you can stream content off the put.io directly to your browser, again, without having to download the file ahead of time.
For privacy reasons, choose a larger plan on put.io and keep all of your movies on there, so no files linger on your own PC... :)
